Hopefully, everyone who has used Google at least once noticed that Edith Head is the highlight today.
Born on October 28, 1897, this famous American costume designer had been nominated for thirty-five Academy Awards and won eight of them - more Oscars than any other woman.
"A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman and loose enough to prove you're a lady."- Edith Head
Edith received a BA degree in letters and sciences with honors in French from University of California, Berkeley, and one year later, earned a MA in romance languages from Stanford.
Her step into the door of Hollywood is by teaching French at Hollywood School for French. To aim a higher salary, Edith started teaching art. Meanwhile, she was taking art classes at the Chouinard College.
1924, Edith Head was hired as a costume sketch artist at Paramount Pictures. She actually borrowed someone else’s sketches for the job interview. By the 1930s, Ms. Head was known as one of hollywood’s leading costume designers.
1967, Edith Head moved to Universal Pictures (possibly following Alfred Hitchcock who moved to Universal Pictures in 1960). She remained at Universal Pictures until her death in 1981.
In 1923, she married Charles Head which eventually ended as a divorce in1936. Later in 1940, Edith married to Wiard Ihnen until his death from cancer in 1979.
Among the list of actors and actresses that Ms. Head had designed for, you can find Elizabeth Taylor (A Place in the Sun, 1951; Elephant Walk, 1954), Audrey Helburn (Roman Holiday, 1953; Sabrina, 1954; Funny Face, 1957), Sophia Loren (That Kind of Woman, 1959), Natalie Wood, Tippi Hedren, Danny Kaye, Steve Martin ......
Edith’s Academy Awards:
1950 - The Heiress
1951 - Samson and Delilah
1951 - All About Eve
1952 - A Place in the Sun
1954 - Roman Holiday

At the very end, the image of Edna Mode from the Incredibles suggested Edith Head’s personalities. But the director, Brad Bird, has neither confirmed nor denied this.
