Oscar - The Red Carpet Looks

Hope everyone enjoyed Nail Patrick Harris’s Academy Award night. Like always, red carpet is my favourite moment. I was watching the red carpet, checking twitter and Instagram for new updates and taking notes all at the same time with a drink in my hand.

My 5 YES!:

Meryl Streep demonstrated less is more based on her years of experiences on the red carpet. Adequate and elegant, contrasting her abnormal witch look in the movie “Into the Woods”.

Lupita Nyong’o never lets me down on the red carpet. This customized Calvin Klein consists 6000 white Akoya pearls to reflect Lupita’s black pearl skin tone. Unfortunately, this $150,000 worth dress was stolen on Tuesday from Lupita’s hotel room.

Reese Witherspoon was nominated thanks to her stunning performances in the movie “Wild”. I love the off-the-shoulder neckline and the classic black-and-white contrast. Well done, Tom Ford.

Marion Cotillard is the Dior girl. So it wasn’t surprising that she showed up in a Dior couture gown on the red carpet. While other females were trying to win the red carpet war, this was a brave choice. Confident, simple and modern. You sure will remember this dress after the night.

Julianne Moore was dressed to win the Best Actress. This customized Chanel couture dress is composed of 80,000 hand-painted white resin sequins. That’s almost one thousand hours of labour.

My 5 NO…:
Scarlett Johansson’s Versace dress is stunning but who picked the necklace?

Doesn’t matter how much I loved Patricia Arquette’s winning speech, I recommend pectoral exercises for her before getting into the dress. And the black bottom would look nicer with more layers to phrase her figure.

I like Alberta Ferreti’s erotic chiffon and draping. Laura Dern’s pick however armoured her up down to a stiff and odd stream. Not to mention she probably should go for another hairdresser next time.

Felicity Jones’s Alexander McQueen gown was eating her up, especially the embellished top. I like her after party look.

Nicole Kidman looks stunning in this Louis Vuitton gown. But would be better to take off the red tape belt. The texture messed up the entire look.

Spring Festival - Red & Gold II

The Spring Festival is on February 19 this year. When I was a kid, I usually start clothes shopping with my parents around this time before the celebration. New outfits mean new starts for the new year.

My closet in Canada is small comparing to the walking closet back home. With the constraint space, it’s wiser to just purchase some red and/or gold accessaries for Spring Festival instead of a whole outfit.

Illesteva - red acetate sunglasses
The cherry-red “Lenard II” have larger frames to make your faces smaller magically. This will be your statement so minimize the visual impact of other pieces. You can choose a beige or charcoal dress.

Isabel Marant - Red skip-blend scarf
I can’t survive winters without scarfs. Cashmere, wool, silk… all cozy, warm and make me feel secured. You can also pick ones with patterns as that’s one of the biggest trends right now.
