Met Gala - China: Through the Looking Glass

Since Anna Wintour took over the Met Gala in 1995, it has been the fashion war on the East Coast. (Has to say that Anna's daughter, Bee Shaffer, looks way better than her mother.)

However, it wasn’t like that when it first started. The first Met Gala happened back in 1948 when the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute was founded. Ladies would pay $50 to go with a dress in the institute’s vault. It wasn’t until the Prada Devil that Met Gala became fabulous and glamorous.
Since 1995, every invitee including artists, celebrities, millionaires and so on and forth, needs Anna’s approval. In 2014, an individual ticket cost $25,000 or you pay $175,000 for a table of 10.

This year, the theme is “China: Through the Looking Glass” and I am very fond of all the Chinese actresses’ looks.

Gong Li
As the co-chair of the year, Gong Li showed up in a elegant velvet gown designed by Roberto Cavalli as his last piece. Roberto Cavalli placed traditional Chinese embroider to state the sense of oriental. And the PIAGET Extremely Piaget earnings merged in.

Zhang Zi-Yi
I was hoping she would be in red last night, however, the ivory Carolina Herrera mikado gown with Qipao-inspired details stunned the Red Carpet. The Cindy Chao accessaries were just the right touches.

Michelle Yeoh
Our female action star pulls out one of my favourite gowns of the night. This all-time scree beauty showed up with her fiancee, Jean Todt, in a jade lamb gown from SHIATZY CHEN. The different fabrics are interestingly combined to reveal a distinguish Chinese taste - “Jade” and “Mountains”.

Wendi Deng Murdoch
Showed up in Oscar de la Renta. Her daughter made the society debut last night as well.

Fan Bing-Bing
She’s always striving for the perfection with Chinese elements under the spotlights from the world. She had already wow-ed everyone on Cannes Festival for three years in a row and she scored again last night in Christopher Bu.

Li Bing-Bing
Li Bing-Bing caught my eyes since her 2011 Cannes and 2012 Oscars looks. She always chooses the simplicity and elegancy. At he first glance, this Christian Dior haute couture has an odd structure. But now I see it phrases this 42-year-old actress’s figure secretly.

Caurina Lau
This black and white satin Schiaparelli haute Couture seems a little conservative to me and too bad she didn’t bring her husband. I love her in Ralph & Russo more. She could definitely present a more sexy but graceful look.

Zhao Wei
I was a big fan of her role in My Fair Princess when I was a Grade 1 student. She usually goes with a more direct and sincere look on the Red Carpet. Last night, she showed up in a lilac Michael Kors gown and Tiffany & Co.

Zhou Xun
She has picked her usual Chanel Couture with fine details throughout to define her relatively small body frame. Apparently, Zhou Xun has a long history with this dress and she loves the fleeting and ethereal atmosphere.

Tang Wei
The newly-married bride showed up in a silver hand-made crystal gown from Burberry. With thousands of crystal beads, this is one of the heaviest gown I’ve seen.

Gao Yuan-Yuan
Another bride went with Michael Kors. She is known for her freshness and elegance.

Ni Ni
One of the youngest actresses of the night from China. Of course, she picked a yellow Ralph Lauren gown to reflect her energy and youth and to comply with the Chinese theme. She looks totally different from the movie The Flowers of War.

As the Chinese super models have made their world presences, they are usually under spotlights for grant social events like Met Gala.
Qin Shu-Pei (Tommy Hilfiger)

Liu Wen (Michael Kors)

Sun Fei-Fei (Michael Kors)
