Red Lips in 2015

Lipstick is the No. 1 item in every woman’s purse.

When I was young, I would often sneak into the master bedroom, carefully pull open the first drawer of my mother’s dresser and twist her lipstick tubes one by one to see the pretty colours. At that time, It was not acceptable for teenage girls wearing lipstick in China.

After the first lipstick was introduced in 1915 by Maurice Levy, ladies started to enjoy their ever-changing lip colours since. Dark red was one of the most popular shades throughout.

Lipstick was worn around the lips to form a "Cupid's bow," inspired by actress Clara Bow in 1920s.

By the 1950s, movie actresses Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor helped bring back dark red lips.

In the last few years, vintage has conquered the fashion world and been staying for years. With this, bright bold lip colours became trendy again with saturated colours revived, so did red-lips look. If you haven’t tried it yet, don’t hesitate in 2015.

In 2010, Chanel introduced its red-lips look with nude make-up.

In 2011, dark red was in spotlight for the whole year.

In 2012, a wilder and brighter red shade was popular.

In 2013, Emma Watson stunned everyone in Lancôme "In Love" Spring Collection 2013.

In 2014, Asia was seduced by a new Korean way of doing lips from the drama “You Came from the Star”.

In 2015, you can go for either fresh red or an orange shade. You can also try boysenberry this winter.

From limited shades, to indefinite selections, it’s hard to pick your own colour. Mine colour is from Sephora Rouge “It girl”. I receive compliments whenever I wear this shade. The rule is try the colour yourself. Make sure to not only try it in store, but also see yourself in the sunlight, after a couple hours.

There are also some lipsticks on my Wishlist:
Bobbi Brown No. 10 (brownish red)

Chanel La Fascinante (dark red colour in a velvet texture)

Dior Rouge No. 999 (inspired by Trafalgar gown)

M.A.C. Russian Red (famous because of Madonna)

Shiseido No. 514 Dragon (bold and powerful)

You can still do the Korean look which  was inspired by the after-look of biting lips. If you've read "Fifty Shades of Grey", I don't need to explain why it's a sensual but shy look. Perfect for young ladies.

Sometimes red-lips can be challenging. You don't want to get smudges. I always use the brush to get the perfect shape.

Dislike previous years, matte is not the only option. You can apply a thin layer of lip gloss after this year for a fuller look.
